If you are planning to breastfeed then this is the perfect preparation class for you. Our certified lactation consultants and breastfeeding educators will empower your feeding goals. Breastfeeding is undoubtedly the best nutrition you can you give to your baby, but it doesn’t always come easy.

We have developed a class to educate and inform you on everything related to feeding your baby, whether that be breast or bottle. Having this knowledge in advance makes for confident and capable parents who understand the challenges related to feeding and breastfeeding.

On-Site is a great option if you prefer real-time interaction, want to meet other parents, and enjoy the social component. This service is available at our headquarters.

Virtual

Virtual classes are ideal during COVID, are great for families with busy schedules, or for those who live out of our offered locations. They are hosted over Zoom and are available to anyone no matter their geographic location. For the best experience, we recommend viewing from a laptop with a high-speed internet connection.

  • Why should I take a prenatal breastfeeding class?

    Breastfeeding can be challenging, although it is natural it does not always come easy. You and your baby are both learning so it’s very helpful to have the foundation knowledge before you start your journey.

    This class will provide you with the confidence and understanding of how to approach those first few hours and be prepared once you get home from the hospital with your baby.

    You will have direct access to our IBCLC – International Board Certified Lactation Consultants. Our Lactation consultants have years of hands on experience helping new moms adjust to breastfeeding challenges. Having this invaluable knowledge to understand what is normal and know in advance how to troubleshoot any issues you may have.

  • When should I take the prenatal breastfeeding class?

    Anytime you are comfortable with really, we suggest late in your second or early in your third trimester (28 weeks – 32 weeks) is a great time to take the class.

    But you attend whenever works for you and your schedule.

  • I had a successful experience of breastfeeding my first baby? Should I take the class?

    Congratulations! We have had a lot of second and third-time moms attend our class because each baby is unique and each time is different. This class is perfect for you if you simply want to brush up on your breastfeeding knowledge, update your information, and feel more confident when you start to breastfeed.

    We have also had a number of 2nd & 3rd-time moms attend due to facing some challenges with the first baby and they want to be more prepared for the next time around.

  • What are some of the common breastfeeding challenges we will cover?

    As well as understanding how to prepare for breastfeeding, we will also cover some of the topics where things don’t go exactly to plan. There are a number of common issues that our Lactation consultants will visit new parents to help resolve and we will discuss and provide you with the techniques in advance to help troubleshoot these issues.

    We will help provide you information around low milk supply, issues with the baby latching, ideal positioning, tongue-tie, self-care with cracked and sore nipples and much more.

    The class will also be able to help you with the practicalities of pumping, sterilizing equipment and increasing your milk supply.

  • I am expecting multiples is this class also for me?

    Congratulations! How exciting! Yes, this class is also for you, our Lactation consultants will help provide you with specific information and techniques relating to feeding multiples. It’s not always as simple as feeding two babies at the same time and our lactation consultants will answer all your questions relating to twins and even triplets!

  • What will I learn during the class?

    This is a great course for both first-time moms and those who simply want to brush up on their breastfeeding knowledge. We cover the topics listed below but also have time to answer your specific questions.

    With our small group classes you will get to meet other moms who may bring up some questions you have not considered. We also cover topics such as breast enhancements or reductions and what you might need to consider in this situation.

    We aim to make sure you as an individual with your own concerns or questions get the most out of the class.

  • Do I have to attend the class with my partner?

    Our prenatal breastfeeding class is specifically designed to prepare you and your partner for all aspects of breastfeeding, so we encourage you to bring along your partner, sister, mother, friend, or whoever will be supporting you with the breastfeeding time.

    This is a great chance for dads or partners to learn how to support you and also make them feel included in your breastfeeding journey.

  • I would like to take the class at home, is it possible?

    Yes, We can provide you with the best prenatal breastfeeding education in the comfort of your own home. We have a team of Lactation Consultants who cover all of Toronto & the GTA.   • I would like to take the class with some friends, is it possible?

    Sure, again we can host this at our location or provide the class in the comfort of you home. It’s just a matter of giving us a call at 1-844-237-4686 or email admin@newmummycompany.ca and we will take care of the scheduling.

  • What does IBCLC mean?

    IBCLC is the acronym for an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. A healthcare professional who specializes in the clinical management of breastfeeding. This is the governing body and certifies that the person who is teaching you is qualified and trained to educate you on breastfeeding.

  • How many people will be in the group class with me?

    We aim to run a class at least once every month and each class will have a maximum of five attendees with you. We find this is the perfect number to allow you to share the experience and gain answers to questions you may not have considered. This allows you the time to have your questions answered without any time pressure.

  • I would like to take the class online, do you offer this option?

    We can provide the following three options for your class.

    1. At our Oakville location – Small group classes normally with 2-5 attendees (plus partners)
    2. Online via private zoom call
    3. Private in-home classes

  • How long is the breastfeeding class?

    The class takes 1 hour 30 minutes. We will provide an opportunity within this period to answer your questions and put your mind at rest on all aspects of breastfeeding. The class is highly interactive and informal.

  • Where do the in-person breastfeeding classes take place?

    If you would like to join us for a group class in Oakville, we are located at Bronte Rd & Dundas St. in the Palermo medical building.

    Our address is 2525 Old Bronte Rd, Unit 160, Oakville, L6M 4J2.

    However, we also provide virtual classes worldwide and have provided classes to Dubai,  United Kingdom, USA, Egypt, Jordan and all across the world.

  • Is the class covered by insurance?

    The class is not covered by OHIP but there is a possibility your private health care insurance or extended health benefits cover breastfeeding education. We would recommend checking with your insurance provider. We are happy to provide detailed receipts for any claims.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

    We ask that you provide us with at least 5 business days notice if you have to cancel, if there is time we would look to move you to another date. By providing us with 5 days notice this allows us to offer the class to another mom who may be on our waiting list.
