At The New Mummy Co, our in person prenatal classes are designed to provide you and your partner with the confidence and knowledge to prepare for the birth, along with the practical skills of caring for your newborn baby.

We have a team of certified and experienced prenatal instructors who have completed thousands of prenatal classes and will provide an evidence-based approach and real life practical knowledge.

We keep the classes to a maximum of 5 couples to ensure an intimate experience allowing you to bond with other expectant parents while answering your essential questions in a supportive atmosphere.

The in person prenatal class is divided into two parts. The morning session comprises of labour and birth including comfort measures. The afternoon session covers the early postpartum period with practical education relating to bathing, diapering, swaddling and feeding.

Oakville Prenatal Class Location

Our Oakville prenatal classes provide you with a boutique and comfortable location with luxury recliner chairs to ensure you and your bump are well looked after. However don’t expect to be seated all day, as this fun and engaging class will have you out of your seats and learning practical parenting skills, such as how to make the perfect baby burrito swaddle.

We have invested in a variety of practical equipment and props to get enhance your hands on learning. During the course of the class you will learn newborn care skills using realistic baby dolls for swaddling, feeding, diapering and bathing.

We are conveniently located within the Palermo Medical Centre at Unit 215, 2525 Old Bronte Road in Oakville. You may be familiar with our building as many of the Oakville OB’s share the space. Our location provides ample free parking and elevator access to our unit on the second floor.

Whether you are coming from Toronto, Mississauga, Burlington or beyond we are just moments away from the QEW and 407 at Bronte & Dundas.

Private Prenatal Classes in Toronto & GTA

We are passionate about the value of in-person prenatal education and the benefits of hands on practical learning. Our prenatal educators are available to travel across Toronto and the wider GTA to provide a private or semi private prenatal class in the comfort of your home.

The private prenatal class will follow the same content but we can also tailor the class to your individual needs.

Private is a great option if you prefer privacy or want to host amongst friends or family in the comfort of your own home.

On-Site

On-Site is a great option if you prefer real-time interaction, want to meet other parents, and enjoy the social component. This service is available at our headquarters.

Virtual

Virtual classes are ideal during COVID, are great for families with busy schedules, or for those who live out of our offered locations. They are hosted over Zoom and are available to anyone no matter their geographic location. For the best experience, we recommend viewing from a laptop with a high-speed internet connection.

FAQ

  • When should I take my prenatal class?

    It is recommended to take your prenatal class at the end of your second or the beginning of your third trimester. Taking the prenatal class at approximately 28-32 weeks will ensure everything is fresh in your memory. You will also gain the knowledge far enough in advance to plan for your birth with confidence.

    However, there is no set rule to when to take your class and in some cases depending on your pregnancy is progressing, you may even want to take your class earlier.

  • How far in advance should I book my prenatal class?

    Prenatal classes in Oakville are always in demand; both private and public health care classes will regularly book out weeks in advance due to limited spaces available.

    We recommend booking as early as you are comfortable with. We understand that life is busy and by booking early you will get the date that suits both you and your partner’s schedule.

    Our classes are regularly booked out which means the dates disappear from our website, we also keep our small and intimate so there is a maximum of 5 couples per class.

  • Do I need a partner to attend the prenatal class?

    Our classes are priced for you to bring someone along with you. We encourage you to bring along your partner, sister, mother, friend, or whoever will be supporting you with the birth and in the immediate postpartum period.

    The classes will help your partner understand more about what to expect during labour and birth and we think this class could be really important for them because we will review the partner’s role, and how they can best support you during labour and birth, as well.

    We provide a non-judgemental and safe environment. Everyone is welcome.

  • How many prenatal classes do I have to attend?

    We are very aware you will be busy and life will be hectic planning for the new arrival. Our classes are designed to run over one day on a weekend. Giving you all of the information and knowledge over the course of a morning & afternoon session with a short break for lunch.

    We will keep you moving and entertained through the full-day session

    We do also run the classes over two weeknights if you would prefer. Please reach out to us directly if you are unable to attend on a weekend.

  • I have watched videos and read some books, do I still need to take a prenatal class?

    Videos and books are an excellent way to get a lot of information but attending a prenatal class will help you to be prepared for birth with the support and answers from experienced and qualified prenatal instructors.

    There are multiple tips and tricks that you will learn during the class on how to best prepare. The practical hands-on teaching will provide an additional level of comfort that cannot be provided by a book.

    Also sharing the experience with other parents to be may bring up some questions and queries that you just didn’t think of yourself, there is great comfort in knowing you are not alone with any apprehensions you may have.

  • What should I wear to the prenatal class?

    We suggest you dress comfortably in clothes that will allow you to move freely and practice some labour positions without any restrictions. Just dress for comfort!

    We have fitted out our Oakville prenatal class location with comfortable reclining chairs for our moms to be so you will be able to put your feet up and take everything in.

  • Are prenatal classes only for people planning a natural birth?

    Our prenatal classes are ideal for all who want to gain the knowledge to plan the birth with confidence. Whether you are planning a natural birth, home birth, water birth, epidural or c-section we aim to prepare you for all eventualities.

    There are multiple benefits for parents taking a prenatal class, for example:

    • Help you to be prepared mentally for the birth of your baby
    • You will have a more accurate idea about what expect on big day and you could start to plan for your baby’s birthday
    • Dads and partners can learn how they can support you and know what their role is for the big day
  • How many couples will be with me in prenatal class?

    Each month we will be running full-day classes for small groups in the comfort of our boutique located in Oakville. We limit our classes to 5 couples maximum to ensure there is plenty space and everyone is comfortable in our location.

    To add to your comfort we have invested in environment fogger to sanitize our location and seating in a environmentally friendly way without the use of chemicals.

  • I would like to take the prenatal class at home, is this possible?

    For sure! You have the option to take advantage of taking a class virtually or in-person from home. Our instructors can travel within Toronto and the GTA to provide a private 1-1 personal service. This allows you to tailor the class to your needs and spend more time on subjects important to you.

    We will turn up at your home with all the props and deliver our 3hr “Birth & Labour” or “Newborn Baby Basics” classes in the comfort of your living room.

  • Where is New Mummy Co. located in Oakville?

    We are conveniently located on the ground floor of the Palermo Medical building on Bronte & Dundas. Our address is 2525 Old Bronte Rd, Unit 160, Oakville, ON L6M 4J2. We are an outside unit with our own entrance so no need to go into the main building, we are next to Kumon and you are more than welcome to pop in and see our store and training rooms in advance. We would love to meet you and your bump!

  • What will you cover during the prenatal class?

    Our qualified instructors cover all of the essential topics you require while also being answer questions specific to your individual needs. Our prenatal classes are dived in two sessions, morning and afternoon:

    Labour & Birth Prenatal Class: the essential information for your baby’s birth day. (3 hour – Morning)

  • Is possible to take the prenatal class online?

    Absolutely! Prenatal Classes via video conferencing are available worldwide! 1-1 with our experienced and qualified prenatal instructors.   • How much time do I have to have lunch?

    You will have half an hour to have lunch. So we suggest you bring with you something easy to eat in our boutique while you wait for the next class. There is Tria and the Palermo pub close by for a quick bite to eat if needed.

    Unfortunately due to the pandemic we have had to add additional space which has reduced our ability to have a full functional kitchen space.

    We also have a water cooler in our classes if you bring a container.

  • What should I bring to class?

    Unfortunately due to Covid-19 we are unable to provide our regular hospitality of tea, coffee and snacks. We suggest bringing along water and whatever hot drink you prefer, from a pumpkin spice latte to a caramel macchiato we will not judge you. There are numerous local places for a quick lunch or you are welcome to bring along your pack lunch. Some snacks are always a good idea in case you or your bump are hungry during the day.

    We hope this will be temporary and we can resume our normal hospitality asap!
